Thailand’s gem and jewelry sector has delivered a remarkable export performance in the first quarter of 2025, presenting bedazzling opportunities for entrepreneurs and importers in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, Romania, and Serbia.

Exports Surge to Record Highs

According to the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, from January to March 2025, Thailand’s gem and jewelry exports reached USD 8,635.86 million, a staggering 109.88% increase compared to the same period last year. Even excluding unwrought gold, the sector still saw exports of USD 5,086.40 million, up 102.38% year-on-year. In March alone, export value hit USD 2,502.15 million, marking a 131.04% rise, with actual gem and jewelry exports (excluding gold) at USD 1,054.19 million, up 52.53%.

This growth cements gems and jewelry as Thailand’s top export category, accounting for 10.59% of the nation’s total exports in early 2025. The sector’s resilience is further highlighted by robust demand in key markets and a global shift toward ethical sourcing and innovative designs.

Why Importers in Southeast Europe Should Take Note

  • The region’s importers can benefit from Thailand’s expanded production capacity, competitive pricing, and world-renowned craftsmanship.

  • With global supply chains diversifying, Southeast Europe is well-positioned to tap into Thailand’s high-quality colored gemstones, silver jewelry, and fine gold products.

  • Thailand is the world’s second-largest exporter of silver jewelry and third in colored gemstone exports, with export values doubling over the past decade.

  • The ongoing emphasis on sustainable and transparent sourcing aligns with evolving consumer preferences in Europe, making Thai products even more attractive.
